How to Overcome Perfectionism: 6 Powerful Habits

One of the most common challenges that people email me about – and I myself have had quite a bit of trouble along with – is perfectionism.

It can an issue that can hold you back in living. Not only from attaining and finishing what you want.

Yet sometimes from actually getting started. While at the same time depleting your self-esteem, leading to self-doubt and getting you stuck in a undesirable spiral where it can truly be harder and harder to start continuing to move forward.

So today I’d like to discuss 6 things that have got helped me – but still helps me even today – with this harmful and distracting believed habit.

one Go for good enough.

Targeting perfection usually winds up in a task or something else in no way being finished.

So go for good enough instead.

Don’t use this as an excuse to slack off. But simply realize that there is certainly something called sufficient and when you are there then you definitely are finished with whatever you are doing.

So find a balance for yourself where you do good function and don’t slack off but simultaneously don’t get lost within trying to improve plus polish something too much.

Where to find that balance? I have discovered my own balance via trial and error and experience.

2 . Realize that a person hurt yourself and the people around you by buying into myths of perfection.

By viewing too many movies, hearing too many songs and just taking in what the globe is telling you it is extremely easy to be lulled into dreams of perfection.

It sounds so good and amazing and you want it.

But in actual life it clashes with reality and tends to:

We find it very helpful to remind myself of the simple facts.

Whenever I actually get lost in a perfectionist headspace I remind myself that it may cause me and my world harm.

And so it become easier to switch my focus plus thoughts because I want to avoid making damaging choices and avoid leading to myself and the people closest to me unwanted pain.

3. Acknowledge that you are human and so are everyone else.

Set human being standards for everyone and accept that life is like that.

Everything and all of us have flaws and points don’t always go as planned. You are able to still improve matters but they will never become perfect.

And realize that a person won’t be turned down if things or you aren’t perfect.

At least not really by reasonably well ballanced human beings, like most individuals actually are in reality.

four. Compare yourself to your self.

Comparing yourself to others on a regular basis can easily result in feeling inferior. There will always be a lot of people ahead of you in any area of existence.

Therefore compare yourself to yourself…

  • See your improvement and how far you have come.
  • Seem back at whatever you have overcome.
  • Appreciate yourself and focus that which you have done and are performing rather than what everyone else is doing.

5. Do what you think is the right thing.

So you realize that perfectionism will harm you and you try to avoid it. But people and media and the community around you have an influence over how you think and feel.

One of the best ways I have found to virtually lessen that impact is by doing the perfect thing as much as possible.

When you do that other people’s expectations have less and less energy over you and you take more cost of your life.

Because by doing the appropriate thing your self-esteem and self-confidence goes up and other people’s views about you and lifestyle will matter less to you.

You have become stronger, more certain within who you are and you are not so easily swayed simply by external forces.

6. Shape an environment associated with human standards around you.

Emotions are infectious. So is perfectionism.

And even though you can lessen the effect that your environment has got you can also work at the other end of details.

You are able to reshape your environment by for example:

Decreasing or cutting out the sources that attempt to reinforce perfectionism within you.

Take a little time to review what websites, publications, podcasts, TV-shows and books you spend lots of time with. Take a look at if they have realistic and good expectations or views on you and on lifestyle.

And when not, choose to spend more of your time with the sources that lift you up and support you.

Spending less time along with nervously perfectionistic individuals.

And more of your time every week with people who are looking to improve themselves and are living a good lifetime in a positive, healthy and relaxed method.
