The particular 7 Characteristics associated with Discipleship

2021 may be the Year of the Local Church, so we thought we’d take a significant look at an often-neglected function of the Church—discipleship. In Matthew 28: 19-20, Jesus lets us know to make disciples of all nations, teaching these to obey His instructions.

Throughout the Bible, we see numerous examples of discipleship—Moses plus Joshua, Eli plus Samuel, Elijah and Elisha, Jesus and His disciples, Paul plus Timothy, and so a lot more. That’s because discipleship is to be a way of life for the who trust. Giving and receiving discipleship is the path to religious maturity, and in each one of these instances, great private breakthrough.

Several are hesitant to disciple others, feeling inadequate to do so. If that is you, remember: In order to whom much is definitely given, much is necessary; and to those who acknowledge it, there is an anointing to achieve it.

What you’ve received spiritually should be moving through you! As you move into this powerful place of ministry, consider these seven features of discipleship which will get you on your way.

1 . Talk about the Gospel

“Go into all the globe and preach the particular gospel to every creature. ” –Mark 16: 15 (NKJV)

Discipleship starts here. Every believer is called to share the particular gospel, and it is the first characteristic associated with true discipleship. Tag 16: 15 is not just talking about the casual overseas mission journey, it’s about writing the love of Christ with these around us every day. People at work, people at the grocery store, unsaved family members plus friends all need to hear you “give an answer to everybody who asks you to give the reason for the particular hope that you have”(1 Peter 3: fifteen, NIV).

2 . Go Beyond Evangelism

“Go therefore and make disciples. ” –Matthew 28: nineteen (NKJV)

You’ll notice this particular verse doesn’t say “Go therefore and make converts, ” but rather disciples . Sharing the gospel is important, but it is only step one associated with what we’re known as to do. Discipleship is usually lifelong. It certainly not ends. Each of us is to continually grow and mature spiritually, and that includes new Christians!

The Great Percentage in Matthew twenty-eight: 19 isn’t practically winning souls; it’s about teaching individuals everything Jesus has taught us. Discipleship changes things—it changes people and their particular thinking. That’s the reason why it is so important to teach people the full Phrase of God rather than avoid topics that people think might be unpleasant.

Discipleship goes beyond assisting someone pray the sinner’s prayer. It provides having the tough conversations, like how living with someone before marriage or no-fault divorce are not biblical. It also addresses politics through the lens of the Bible when it comes to abortion, the economy, criminal justice and education.

several. Be Imitators associated with Christ

“Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. ” –1 Corinthians 11: 1 (ESV)

Discipleship is far more than what we say to people—it’s primarily found in the particular example we cave in our own lifestyle. We cannot teach others to live a living of forgiveness and at the same time carry around aggression and resentment within our own lives. We cannot teach other people to walk in love, then allow strife to come straight into our marriages. Our lifestyle serves as each evangelism and discipleship.

4. Men, Become Spiritual Dads

“In Christ Christ I became your own father” –1 Corinthians 4: 15 (NIV)

Whether they express it or not, men of all ages value the insight, intelligence and counsel associated with strong Christian men who are willing to come alongside them and help them grow spiritually. They need spiritual fathers. This is one way discipleship is achieved.

A spiritual father nourishes, safeguards and upholds. He models right thinking, speaking and residing. He encourages young men to build their particular faith, love their particular wives, and avoid bad thing. He is a pillar of strength in the world built upon sandy ground, and he is always ready to stage young men to Lord and help all of them stay on the right path.

As a man of God, you are known as to disciple younger men. Don’t worry about feeling qualified—there is an anointing to disciple by taking the function of a spiritual dad. Seek the Lord for this anointing and create it. Everything else will certainly fall into place.

5. Girls, Become Spiritual Mothers

“Older women should train the younger women. ” –Titus 2: 4

Ladies, while many men called to be religious fathers, you are known as to become spiritual mothers. If you are a Alfredia woman, whether you know it or not, you are being watched. You are being studied. You are called to be a good example of the Proverbs thirty-one woman.

In order to disciple younger women, you will not only correct and direct but treasure and defend. You may “live in a way that honors God…. teach others what is good…. teach the younger women to like their husbands plus their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes” (Titus 2: 3-5). They are true characteristics of discipleship.

Teenage boys also need spiritual mothers to encourage them to become the men God provides called them to end up being. They hunger intended for spiritual mothers, and people women serve a unique purpose in their spiritual growth.

Take your place—become a religious mother—and help the younger generation rise up in faith and the actual Lord. Embrace the anointing of discipleship through spiritual being a mother. Your spiritual youngsters are waiting for your direction, guidance and adore.

six. Make Connections

“If I have the present of prophecy and may fathom all mysteries and all knowledge…but have no love, I am nothing. ” –1 Corinthians 13: 2 (NIV)

Effective discipleship can only come through a personal romantic relationship that is developed on trust and really like. That’s why among the characteristics of discipleship is making contacts with other people. When you build relationships with other believers, you will position yourself to teach them the ways of the particular Kingdom. You will have an open door to help them change their thoughts and renew their own minds.

This is especially true of discipling your kids. Your relationship cannot only be one of correction and self-discipline, but also of appreciate and encouragement. After that, as you impart the term into them and train them up in the way they should move, they will receive willingly from you.

7. Seek Out Discipleship Yourself

“To acknowledge correction is wise. ” –Proverbs 12: 1 (CEV)

God’s plan for every believer is to disciple others. But the initial step is to be the faithful disciple yourself. Pastor George Pearons says, “Show us a great leader, plus I’ll show you somebody who has first been the faithful disciple. ”

In other words, discipleship isn’t a visible street. Each of us is called to disciple, but also to be discipled. And it is a long term pursuit.

An important characteristic of discipleship is to seek out discipleship yourself. Don’t wait around for the “perfect” person. Find someone who is definitely spiritually mature to hold you accountable and challenge you to achieve higher and develop faster in your faith. This won’t continually necessarily be someone that is older, and it also certainly won’t end up being someone who only informs you what you want to hear!

You cannot stand alone and expect to grow. We’ve been called to spur one another on in our faith. Find someone who is spiritually older and willing to speak boldly to you. Don’t shy away from correction, or you’ll result in the same place year after year.

And be sure your discipleship is occurring in a personal setting. Watching VICTORY Channel® is one way to receive training and instruction, yet discipleship is a one-on-one experience that allows the Holy Spirit to speak directly to a person through a person. It allows another who trust to lift a person up personally, hold you accountable plus call you increased. There is no substitute for this particular important relationship.

Above all, remember that discipleship isn’t an event, it is a way of life. If you don’t possess someone in your life who will be helping you grow within your faith, reach out to someone whose life and faith you envy today, and ask to or meet on the weekly or month-to-month basis. Share with all of them and welcome them to speak into your existence. Then, be prepared for Our god to do amazing items through the area of discipleship.

Now that you understand the characteristics of discipleship, set a goal this year to live a life-style of discipling and being discipled by others.
