A Simple, Free, Exceptionally Excellent Leadership Tip
Here’ s an easy, free, and exceptionally great leadership tip.
And it’ t one you probably already know, but occasionally forget. Or just don’ t do it enough.
This leadership suggestion was shared with me years ago by one of my leaders who also mentored me. I have utilized it in every leadership environment since then. It’ s one of the best things I do.
It’ s genius. Basic. And, best of all, it’ s free.
Do you wish to be a better innovator?
Apply this leadership tip today. And repeat often.
Get out of your office.
See how simple that is. And also you made it this considerably in the post only for that.
But I’ m telling you functions.
Walk the building. Tour the grounds. Talk to people.
It will take you out of your paradigm. It puts you on more natural ground. You appear more approachable.
- Find out.
- Speak with people doing the work.
- Let individuals ask you queries.
- Smile. Engage.
- Hear stories.
- Get suggestions and input.
- Reinforce eyesight in person.
It’ h so simple. Yet how many times perform we neglect it because we are trapped at a desk? Doing paperwork. Answering email messages from the people we could see in person.
Full disclosure. I wrote relating to this principle the first time more than a decade ago. It had been pre-COVID and we weren’ t as adapted to video meetings. I don’ to think those are getting away and virtual leadership is listen to to stay. (Leading practically might be the subject of another post. ) Therefore , obviously this right now has more limited program. It won’ t apply as well to people not in a actual office setting. So , the challenge for those becomes – how do we replace the closeness of being in the exact same building with people? (Again, I may work on that will post soon. )
Still, leadership appears so much different whenever it’ s done with the computer screen before us. Email can never replace the value of human interaction. People are more than titles on a page.
The very best leadership is always required for real time, but with real people . Eyeball to eyeball. In person. (And I would add even if that is through video conferencing.
You can’ t do it exclusively, but when you may it’ s masterful.
Get out of your office today. Get with actual people. Improve your leadership.
