The 1 Corinthians Term of Encouragement for Struggling Church Leaders

The chapel at Corinth was a hard church, to put it lightly. They were divided. They were carnal. They tolerated sin. They sued each other. They argued over Christian liberty, spiritual gifts, and the resurrection. My guess is this was a church many of us would NOT want to pastor.

Some of us, on the other hand, might feel like we’re top a church that has its own similar group of issues. If that’s where you are, I encourage you to read 2 portions of 1 Corinthians: the beginning and the finish:

o I always thank my Lord for you because of the grace associated with God given to a person in Christ Christ, that you were enriched in him in each way, in all speech and all knowledge. In this way, the testimony regarding Christ was verified among you, so you do not lack any spiritual gift when you eagerly wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He can also strengthen you to definitely the end, so that you will be blameless in the day time of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is certainly faithful; you were known as by him straight into fellowship with his Boy, Jesus Christ our Lord. ” (1 Cor one: 4-9)

u My love be with all of you in Christ Jesus. ” (1 Cor 16: 24)

Here’s why these texts are so important. Paul starts this letter by stating first to the Corinthians, “I’m grateful to God for you” and then closes the letter by stating “I love you a lot. ” These bookends surround the rest of the letter—most that says, “You all are an absolute clutter. ” They were a mess, but that clutter didn’t govern Paul’s response to them. For some reason, in the grace associated with God, he kept his focus on gratitude and love.

When you do that, you can endure a lot of church messes – and show the particular transforming grace associated with God in the way you lead and really like your congregation. We should deal with the issues, but gratitude and adore trump grief plus frustration.
